YEFAB Activity: Philanthropy

YEFAB Activity

As of October 3rd, 2012, the Youth Empowerment Fund has just completed our intensive training period and we are moving into our mini grants. We discussed  the ideas of philanthropy and how we view and think of what a philanthropist is. Philanthropists are people who give their time, and physical effort from service to money to help the community, and we were able to tie this into our grant making process. We discussed the important issues in San Francisco, from lack of education opportunities to drug abuse. With the knowledge we received about philanthropists and grant makers, we have expanded our knowledge of decision making for our grant making process. We have also received our projects for the fall mini grants! We were each assigned a project that we are the program officer for. The past YEFAB group has narrowed down the grantees to 13 groups, which we are going to monitor. It was an exciting meeting to start to learn about grants and our grantees.
