And then there were Seven.

On October 10, 2012, there was a Board of Education Forum held at the College Track Center in the Bayview. Candidates spoke to the public on why they should be on the Board this year, including their past experiences and connections toward the Education system here in San Francisco. It started with introductions from each candidate and afterwards came dinner, which was also a time for the audience to write down questions they had for the candidates and were all put into a question box.  It was nice to see this great opportunity for youth to meet the officials running and getting to know them on a personal level. I decided to interview a close friend of mine, and one of the audience members, Chelsea Stewart. Her take on the event was that it was a great learning experience. “The atmosphere is family friendly and it’s cool to see different aspects and perspectives from the candidates” she said as the event was wrapping up. All in all, this was a very interesting occasion; it’s always great to see youth members being active in their communities and in this particular situation, their lives. These candidates are potential Board leaders that will be identifying issues and making policies having to do with SF education. Like my interviewee, Ms. Stewart said, there’s no one better than Youth to advocate for YOUTH! So with that being said, I thank College Track for hosting this event, and wish the best of luck to all the candidates!
