During out last meeting, Gillian notified us that we
will also partake in the decision making process of the 3 year grants that
applied under youth organizing and philanthropy as we will interview the top 12
prospective grantees. I am super pumped about this process because this will
further allow the youth voice to be heard on a larger scale since these grants
deal with a very large amount of money. I personally love interviewing the
applicants as it enables me to see how truly passionate the staff and youth
leaders are about their project. I believe this process gives me the best
insight into a program.
Judging from our past mini-grant decision making process, I predict the Mint Room will be once again filled with heated arguments when certain perspectives conflict with others. However, looking back I am glad that there was tension in the room because that exemplifies how passionate we really are about certain issues affecting our community. I am definitely excited to experience this process to making more sustainable change in my city with my fellow YEFABers!
