Youth Sustainability Seminar

On October 21, 2012, I performed a site visit to the famous San Francisco Academy of Sciences to witness the great work of young people from five high schools within the San Francisco Unified School District. It was a great day to refresh my knowledge about sustainability at work in the city of San Francisco. I was very pleased with the kind of direction these empowered young people were taking. There is a sense of need and want for more ways to take care of our Earth and to be knowledgeable about how our world is functioning in such a high technological, and busy age, and these young people were willing to take steps to get it done. This would all come to life by making the three-bin system accessible to students in five high school campuses, and hopefully be spread to all schools in the long run. The three-bin system consists of having a landfill (Trash) bin, a recycling bin, and a compost bin at every school, in several areas within the campus, and let students know how to use this system.

The best part of this project is that it is youth led, and there were many youth interns in this project that poured their hearts and energy to make this two-day seminar happen, along with participating schools! I was so glad to be a part of this process and to see that there are people in the world who care and are passionate about our mother Earth and preserving her beauty.
