Mission Possible!

MISSION:  VENTURE OUT INTO SAN FRANCISCO AND LEARN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!
DATE: SATUDAY, SEPTEMBER, 15, 2012.
TIME: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

During last Saturday, us YEFABers were sent on a mission to scavenge the city to learn about the 11 different districts. We were split into teams where each one was assigned to 2 districts so that all the areas in San Francisco were covered. At the start of this challenge, excitement was buzzing all around! As we went our separate ways, we opened our minds to the many possibilities of what could happen on our journey. When YEFABers arrive at each district, we had to find certain landmarks in the area such as community and educational centers. After finding these facilities, we applied our SF Camerawork workshop skills by trying to capture these landmarks in the best possible way. Not only were we able to learn about each area by what it contained, but we also gained insight on what it is like through the people we interviewed. From the people we met, we were able to grasp a better understanding of what the environment is like in the district. Although many of us were able to complete the challenge, we all stumbled along some challenges. For instance, time was a big issue since we had to travel across the city and back in a short amount of time. Even though we had some hardships, the educational experiences we encountered outweighed them. As youth philanthropists, this activity gave us an amazing insight into the different areas of San Francisco which will help us make our decisions when granting cycles begin. We now have a better recognition of what areas of help each district needs. By the end of the day, we were all exhausted but our minds were filled with knowledge. This ultimately exhilarated us to create a positive change in our community!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
