AAA Tour

On May 30th AAA had invited us, YEFAB, to their Chinatown Alleyway Tour. Our tour guides were Eric, Annie, and Jeffrey. They were able to show us the history of Chinatown by bringing us to different alleyways and explaining the cultural history of the buildings, streets, and activities that took place in the alleyways. We learned several interesting facts that pertained to the individiual alleyways. Just to explain, an alleyway is not exactly a street, as a matter of fact, the reason these alleyways aren't considered a street is because they are only a few feet shorter than the appropriate length. We discovered several facts, one of which was that Chinatown was actually designed by Western Designers rather than Mainland Chinese Architects. Jeffrey even showed the YEFAB members that the the design of Uncle's Restaurant, located on 65 Waverly Place, is actually a Victorian style building that simulates those ancient Chinese temples! Interesting, you never knew that right?

Well, we really enjoyed the tour the whole trip. While we were on the tour, we even visited a fortune cookie factory! Did you know fortune cookies weren't invented by Chinese people? If you want to know, I suggest the Alleyway Tour to explain! There are several interesting facts that totally intrigued us when we went on the tour. I was unbelievably surprised at the vast amount of information that they had which described the background of the bus routes, reasons for the asphalt rather than cobblestone alleyways, and the purpose of what certain alleyways such as the Spofford or the Ross Streets were for! If you're looking for some incredible history that your U.S. History class may not have taught you, I highly recommend the Alleyway Tours from Adopt-An-Alleyway as your one stop to opening your minds to the fascinating culture and hisotry of the bustling Chinatown in San Francisco.
