College Track/ 100% Mini Grant Cycle Site Visit

Today I had the exciting opportunity to visit one of our Mini-Grant Cycle recipients, College Track and 100%. They are located on 2398 Jerrold Ave, cross street is Bayshore right under the 101 freeway.  The building is very easy to see with labels of College Track on it.  I did not know what to expect when I entered the building. When I stepped in, I saw students working on Mac book computers, sitting at tutoring tables and doing homework, while creating a safe and friendly environment.  I was directed where to go by some welcoming arms and felt at ease.  They space was free of trash and spacious enough so that not everyone was cramped.  I was really surprised at all of the college posters, acceptance, and tips decorating the room.  The room was also filled with some very comfy chairs for students to relax or get some work done.  The students were really motivated in working hard even while having conversations with their friends.

During the meeting with the youth leaders, I learned that College Track is going to be moving to a new building down on 3rd st.  If the building I visited was nice, I cannot imagine how beautiful and bigger the new building will be.  The youth leaders were very optimistic and upheld their student expectation agreements.  The adult allies and youth leaders very much respected each other and it was obvious through the eye contact and speech.  I really enjoyed listening to their set plans to finish up what they started.  It makes me proud to know that advocating for this program was a positive outcome.  I hope that future generations take advantage of programs such as this.  I wish I would have know of a program like this because I would have most definitely gotten involved.
