On May 11th, 2012, I visited the Center for Young Women's Development. Their meeting space was open, friendly, and a safe environment for children. I sat in on a regular meeting where Monica, the spirited youth-leader, led discussions and activities that related to important policies in the Bay Area from both the past and the present. Participants included mothers who brought along their irresistibly adorable children, who often sparked random bursts of laughter in the room with their words and actions. Everyone remained very engaged throughout the entire meeting and everyone in the room was very comfortable with each other. The meeting ended with a discussion about times in which each individual had stood up for something she believed in, and one existing law she would change. Each woman had different opinions on differing topics, but everyone was open-minded and respectful. Everyone there acted like one big family, and the level of comfort and laughter in the room was heart-warming.

I commend the Center for Young Women's Development for their current work, and wish them continuing success in all their programs.
They have an upcoming event called "Young Families Day" at Civic Center Plaza (between McAllister and Grove on Polk St. directly in front of City Hall) on June 3rd, from 12-4pm. The event includes activities for many children and promotes the healthy dynamics of family.
