Youth Leaders Weekend

Saturday, February 4th was a beautiful sunny day, and youth leaders from all over the city gathered together in one place.

No, it was not to celebrate Fanfest, but instead Youth Leaders Weekend. Located at South Beach Harbor Pier 40A, from 9am to 4pm, a few YEFAB members met with some amazing members from Youth Warriors and the Youth Advisory Council to learn about each others' programs, city government, and to discuss preparations for Youth Advocacy Day, which will take place on March 15th.

The day kicked off with a mini "gallery walk", where each youth leader wrote down their own thoughts and ideals on 4 posters answering questions relating to youth empowerment. Several workshops then followed, including a youth leaders "scavenger hunt", presentations on each others' youth leadership groups, and group discussions on issues faced by youth in this community. The youth leaders then had a presentation discussing how city government works and how we as youth can be involved and make our voices heard. The meeting was concluded with a reflection of how the Youth Leaders Weekend went, and an amazing, though ridiculous, dance off.

Come and show your support at Youth Advocacy Day, on Thursday March 15th where high school students will get the opportunity to meet with city officials to discuss issues they care about.
